BAD radio party
A journey back to the 80's with three of Bristol iconic soul DJ's throwing down old school jams the way they did back in the day. get in early!!
During the 1980’s mainstream radio was not catering for underground Soul, Funk and Hip Hop and the majority of Bristol clubs and bars attitude to the music was to avoid playing it completely.
So, in June 1987, the Soul Twins launched B.A.D. Radio from a St Werburgh’s bedroom to fill this much needed musical gap, broadcasting its brand of music-from-the-streets across Bristol using a small, home made transmitter. In constant threat from being ‘busted’ by the DTI, the station risked loosing their equipment, large fines, and the DJ the confiscation of their records. DJs initially played at weekends before the station expanded its roster and scheduling to 7 days a week before the station closed for good in March 1989.
B.A.D. Radio undoubtably changed the face of the Bristol music scene for ever; other local Pirate stations soon followed helping to change the perception of clubs and bars to the music.
Join us for a journey back to the 80s with three of Bristol’s iconic Soul DJs and original BAD Radio crew throwing-down old school jams the way they did back in the day.
